Outdoor activity has been regarded as an integral activity of daily living mode of a child. Because through that, children have opportunities to be exposed, closer to nature, breathe fresh air, discover lots of things around simultaneously and satisfy the child’s curiosity.
1. Huge benefits for children
The stage children going to the kindergarten (from 2 to 6 years old) is an important stage of a child’s development. At this stage, children form and develop social interation, have a strong development of thinking, intellectual faculties, physical and many other skills. Not being allowed to participate in outdoor activities will impact negatively on the psychological, emotional, communication skills of children. Outdoor activities include activities having main objective (to train some of the knowledge and skills for children in a scientific way according to the objective of the program); activities to help children to learn more about and become familiar with the envirnoment and life around… It can be said that when children take part in outdoor activities, playing, laughing, running around,…in fact that they discovery, learn and have the best conditions for the development of their positive emotions.
Besides, these activities help children develop physically, advocacy and then help them to wear out the energy consumption in order to be able to eat and sleep better. Running, having fun, breathing the fresh air will help the mind at ease, more refreshing. All the effects will help children absorb the lessons in class more easily.
An important advantage of the outdoor activities is to enhance a child’s communication skills. Children will be exposed, get acquainted, talk with other friends in the class. Thereby helping them more freely and confident in communication. In addition, children will be easily adapt and integrate to the different environments. So it can be confirmed that outdoor activities have extremely important implications in the development of children’s physic, emotion and intelligence.
2. “Creativity” is indispensable
Organizing some outdoor activities for children in preschool is always flexible and creative in accordance with the actual conditions of school, especially at any school having the cramped facilities at present. Besides, teachers always have to keep a close watch on children’s psychology to find how to arrange and organize all activities in the most effective way. Outdoor activities are often held in a diversified and copious way. It may be just some simple activities like allowing the children to play on slides, ball house or walk around the yard, take a minitest of identifying some kind of trees and flowers in the school campus,… and may be the more sophisticated activities such as letting children participate in fairs of the school, go to the park, join some traditional games,… Since then children have been formed lots of good habits. For example, children will know themselves have to queue as playing, know the responsibility of helping others when taking part in a group activity, and they will learn how to stand on their own feet on every cases.
School should make use of all hallways to display kids’s paintings and decorate the roof of all playground areas, thereby creating a living outside space. This atractive environment will make the children much more amused and can be a factor increasing the inspiration for kids to join plenty of active activities organized by the teacher. It can be seen that with the same activity, but awaring of each child’s psychology, making all creativity and flexibility basing on existed material facilities of school will help outdoor activities more flourished and appealing to children.
3. Things Parents should know
Entertainment plays an important role for the development of a child, because children will learn a lot of things about the surroundings, develop all senses and have chance to understand their own interests and so on. Parents need to know about the playing activities of children as well as their role in all ones children will participate in.
Tina Bruce, a leading author on Early Childhood Education briefed about the value of the playing activities as follows: “The studies of the brain, as well as researches in other fields, have shown more clearly about the need of childhood having fun. Getting fun plays a role as a mechanism encouraging for some courageous, creative and serious thinkings at adulthood age.”
Nothing can be better than our own playing with children. Playing allows children to understand how the social interaction is, how to solve a problem and how to explore and figure out what is safe and what is not. In other words, children can learn through playing.
