Some measures to organize outdoor activities promoting the positive and initiative for children
Diversifying outdoor games
The current status that lots of school has to face is a narrow playground area and a bit crowded class sizes, so organizing for all children to have fun with outdoor activities are quite difficult. Therefore, it is important to divide class into some smaller group and take the initiative to explore the content of outdoor activities, movement games, traditional games associating with topics and timelines.
1. The games developing senses
Children from 2 to 5 years old have a trend to grow very fast, as well as understand the world around quickly. At this stage, the children will see (visual), hear (auditory), smell (olfactory), taste (taste), touch (tactile) everything, and 5 senses are all new feelings for children. Playing games involving senses will encourage creative thinking and the curiosity in children. Giving children space and time contacting with some interactive games will stimulate the senses of children so that they will develop their skills in all activities and even in child’s life.
Children are allowed to attentively listen to the noise, the wind, the cry, fallen leaves, birds singing, and smell the flowers, smell the grass, the leaves, feel the sunlight. Then through some light games such as who are quick-sighted and quick-eared, guess the tree by the leaf, guess the animal by hand, guess what noise they are listening, etc.
2. The games increasing the awareness of children
Children at the age stage of preschool are very easy to be attracted by new things in the outdoor environment, so that it is very important to build for each child a way to increase the awareness.
Allow children to play with sand, water, drawing chalk, gravelly soil to know their properties. Play with leaves such as folding leaf into various shapes according to the child’ imagination like flowers, house, butterfly shapes.
Let children take part in planting trees and look after trees around the school area in order to develop the curiosity in children: observer the daily changes of greenery in the school and classify them according to flowers group, non-flowers group or fruit group.
These games also help children to expand the relations with the around world, learn how to care for greenery and protect them. Through that will train children how to communicate politely with other people.
3. Activities helping develop children’s movement
Let children play with toys available at school. There are plenty of outdoor tools equipped at school to serve children’s climbing activities. Slides with crawling, creeping, climbing, tossing, passing, climbing over the front steps, stump and hoping activities train children the agility and dexterity of the hands and foots, as well as educate children not to climb at the dangerous place.
Organizing for children to play some simple collective games, some community activities also attract the children’s attention, such as solidarity game, sunny and rainy, shooting, swapping, crocodile going ashore, etc. or maybe allow some children to sing some simple collective song that they all know and sing together.
Apart from active games according to the caring and educating program, it should be flexible to change rules of the game or change the name of the game to attract children’s attention on the games. For example, collecting some movement games and traditional games for children’s outdoor activities appropriate to each topic; or with the subject matter spring, collecting more popular games in the spring festivals to teach children play like kicking a shuttle cock, jumping rope, throwing or blind man’s buff
4. Observation activities
This is the form for children to become familiar with the natural and society knowledge around in order to stimulate children’s studying and discovery. Contents of observations often rely on the ability of each child to be able to raise or lower the requirement for each observe case. To help children to be able to observe in a best way, each child need to be directed a preparation before beginning viewing.
For example, with the plant world subject, children should be asked to do something advance at home like learning about some types of flowers and carrying one kind of flower to class for other friend to see together; or approaching the support from parents to talk with their child and lead them the park to see flower garden. On the other hand, some suggested questions may be very useful to help develop children’ mentality. By this way not only children seem to play positively, but also parents have got very enthusiasm to involve together.
